Strat-M® membrane: a useful tool in developing topical/transdermal formulations

Topical/transdermal delivery of actives offer benefits in pharmaceutical and personal care arena. When developing these formulations, in-vitro permeation testing (IVPT) occurs using human or animal skin as a model tissue. These biological models are highly variable, making data analysis difficult and ethical concerns abound.

We developed Strat-M® membrane, synthetic membrane-based model for IVPT studies. It has morphology like human skin and behaves similar to human skin with active diffusion. In experimental studies, Strat-M membrane shows very close correlation to skin for various types of compounds.

Strat-M® membrane is a successful screening tool in formulation rank ordering for transdermal/topical formulations.
