Currently in its 5th year, this popular interactive workshop introduces delegates to the complexity and nuances of developing cosmetic claims. As we experience 2019 legislative updates in the EU Claims Criteria, as well as new exciting marketing developments, and challenging global concerns, this course helps to understand that claims support within the framework of the EU legislation is far beyond just “evidence”

The workshop objectives — divided into 4 parts — will help to provide you with:

  • An understanding of cosmetic claims and their current impact on the industry and consumer
  • An understanding of the EU cosmetic claims legislation pertinent to 2019 requirements
  • How to develop cosmetic claims and avoid pitfalls within the legislation framework
  • Where do we go next? — how to get there and how to communicate claims


At the end of each presentation questions and discussions are invited.

Team Exercise - These have proven very popular, informative, and fun. Here you will have the opportunity to experience the realities of actually developing a claim and the criteria processes and weight of evidence that are really required. 

Teams will be given an example of “data” and other “information," and will be expected to create a number of claims. To make the Exercise more interesting delegates will be required to:

  • Present quality Claims for marketing and commercial benefits
  • Convey honest and truthful benefits/efficacy of the product(s)
  • Provide Claims that meet all 6 Criteria
  • Identify what data/information is missing — if anything?
  • Identify any mistakes/irrelevancies?
  • Explain and justify what could/should be done differently in terms of “weight of evidence” — how does this impact on the other 5 Criteria.
  • Challenge each teams “Claims” with justification!


Who Should Attend

  • Whilst Regulatory Managers are invited to attend, this is not a regulatory workshop per se, and will not cover other countries regulatory requirements. However they will gain an understanding of claims development.
  • Marketing Managers and Key Decision Makers are encouraged to attend in order to grasp a common sense approach in achieving their claim objectives and an understanding of their ownership of the claims development process. 
  • R&D (product development as well as formulators) are also invited to attend in order to help you understand that the claims process is a shared one and that evidence generated for a claim does not give you a claim.
