Autophagy is an intracellular mechanism for survival and waste management system under high stress, malnutrition, or ageing. Lack of autophagic process in various human cells can lead to metabolic diseases and inducing autophagy has become a new solution for the treatment of the diseases.

We have investigated the role of autophagy in protecting skin from UV induced photoageing using a novel autophagy inducer, AdipoSol™. AdipoSol™ increased adiponectin expression and protected our skin from photoageing and even induced new collagen protein biosynthesis in UV exposed skin. AdipoSol™ also suppressed skin inflammation and skin redness caused by high UV exposure.
