Cosmetic Claims - “Meeting Your Objectives”

Cosmetic Claims - “Meeting Your Objectives”

18 April 2018, 09:00 - 13:00

Workshop Room G104 - G105

The purpose of the workshop is to introduce you to the complexity and nuances of developing cosmetic claims for your products and help you understand that claims support within the framework of the legislation is more than just providing “evidence”

The objectives will be to provide you with:

  • An understanding of cosmetic claims and their impact
  • An understanding of the EU cosmetic claims legislation
  • How to develop cosmetic claims within the legislation framework and issues
  • Claims - how to get there and how to communicate

Presentation 1 - here we will briefly recap the basic concepts of claims — what they are, where you find them, the anatomy of a claim compared to the anatomy of the consumer, as well as introduce some of the common pitfalls as a result of lack of understanding.

Presentation 2 - this will bring you up to date with the EU claims legislation and will provide feedback from the EU, as well as various arguments surrounding this report. We will also briefly cover the status with naturals and organics, and provide an overview of so-called cosmetic devices.

Presentation 3 - this presentation will get to the nuts and bolts of developing a claim. We will dissect the “weight of evidence” required to support a claim and how to get there, as well as looking at the pros and cons of various testing approaches. We will also look at the dangers of extrapolating raw material supplier claims evidence. We close this presentation looking at communication and some examples of claims in current cosmetic trends.

Team Exercise - here you will have the opportunity to experience the realities of actually developing a claim and the processes and evidence that are really required.

Time permitting, at the end of each presentation questions are invited.

Who Should Attend

  • Whilst Regulatory Managers are invited to attend, this is not a regulatory workshop per se, and will not cover other countries regulatory requirements. However they will gain an understanding of claims development.
  • Marketing Managers are encouraged to attend in order to grasp a common sense approach in achieving their claim objectives and an understanding of their ownership of the claims development process.
  • R&D (product development as well as formulators) are also invited to attend in order to help you understand that the claims process is a shared one and that evidence generated for a claim does not give you a claim.
