A biochemist by training, Theresa Callaghan gained her PhD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel).

Her international corporate career spans 30 years in senior global R&D management across the skin care industry including L’Institut Pasteur (France), Unilever (UK), Marks & Spencer (UK), Johnson & Johnson (France), Evonik (Netherlands & Spain), Hill Top Research (UK) and proDERM (Germany).

With the growing demand for expertise in the claims development process proceeding clinical studies, she then set up her own business Callaghan Consulting International in early 2008 anticipating a need for more control of cosmetic claims and furthering scientific developments in that process.

The business has grown from strength to strength, especially since the 2013 EU cosmetics claims legislation — with ever increasing demands, from raw material suppliers, distributors and brands for support in one of the most important aspects of skin products development.

Her main area of focus in the claims development process are: Business and Technology Development, Claims Development & Testing Designs, Responsible Person Expert Support for Claims, Skin Complexities Understanding for Marketing & R&D, as well as Communications in terms of bespoke workshops for clients and the industry, publications, etc.

CCI works for major global brands, small private label brands, active ingredient suppliers, media companies, clinical research companies, as well as pharmaceutical companies internationally.

Widely published, Dr. Callaghan is an experienced “ghost-writer," an active member of a number of professional societies and sits on the scientific editorial board of the International Journal of Cosmetic Science.
