Rolf Schütz is a Study Director for external orientation at R&D Personal Care, DSM Nutritional Products, Switzerland, and, more recently, Scientific Affairs Adviser for Science and Promotion of Sun Care. He has worked in the cosmetic ingredients industry in R&D/technical roles in the development of active ingredients for Skin Care for 15 years. His main expertise lies on in vitro claim substantiation for Skin Care actives with a special focus on photobiology.

He received his PhD in organic chemistry focusing on peptide nucleic acids from the University of Bern in 2000 and continued deepening his expertise in biology as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University studying genetic engineering of drug metabolite biosynthesis. He continued his career joining Pentapharm in 2002 and contributed to the development of biotechnologically derived Skin Care actives as Lab Head, Project Manager, and Head of Biotech Production. In 2010, after the transition to DSM he started and led an in vitro biology lab mainly dedicated to the evaluation UV-induced damage and treatment strategies.

Rolf Schütz has been the leading scientist for recent product launches in the field of anti-aging, pollution, epigenetics and blue light. He has co-authored numerous publications and patent filings for Skin Care actives and is a member of the Swiss SCC.
