Skin brightening is one of the most rapidly growing segments of the cosmetics industry driven by Asian markets and Western countries.
The challenge now is to demonstrate the in vivo efficacy of ingredients that have been shown in vitro to regulate innovative pathways of melanin synthesis or by increasing the efficacy of existing ingredients using for instance delivery systems.
A synergistic complex of sucrose dilaurate and pea extract was shown in vitro to decrease melanogenesis. In vivo, the complex demonstrated visible brightening, anti-age spots and complexion homogenizing efficacy.
Improvement of cell delivery of well-known complexion brightening ingredients such as ferulic acid by encapsulation in cationic liposomes demonstrated enhanced in vivo efficacy compared to free ferulic acid.
