In this presentation, the evaluation of the preservative effects of Zemea® propanediol is discussed. CTFA challenge tests on neat samples of Zemea®, PG and BG were conducted in 2008. In 2010 new testing of Zemea® was conducted that demonstrated Zemea® could enhance the performance of preservatives in cosmetic and personal care formulations. New testing in 2011 has shown that formulators can reduce the preservative level by 75% and can expect to pass CTFA challenge tests when using Zemea®. Additionally, a comparison of preservative effects between Zemea® and butylene glycol (BG) at 4wgt.% levels will be shown.
