How can a cosmetic ingredient stimulate the synthesis of elastin and collagen deep down in dermal skin layers? Cosmetic actives cannot easily penetrate that far into our skin. Cell to cell communication is an important mechanism to overcome this limitation. DermCom, the new active of Mibelle Biochemistry based on crocus bulbs, has been shown to stimulate keratinocytes to release molecules which activate elastin and collagen expression in fibroblasts. Gene array studies show that DermCom induces the secretion of growth factors in keratinocytes which are responsible for this epidermal dermal cell communication.
