The extracellular matrix (ECM) is a highly dynamic environment in our body. It supports and promotes skin’s renewal and maintains its architecture. This matrix is extremely energy dependent, and the loss of metabolic energy resources upon senescence explains ECM’s slow degradation upon time. New technologies inspired from bio-pharma researches enable to re-fuel the ECM with bio-energy to reactivate its biological functions. Different examples of such new ACI (Active Cosmetic Ingredients) will be explained.
