Based on a precision culture medium specifically designed to create an ageing environment, the VitroAge model features natural ageing at a moderate speed, without the need for non-physiological, acute doses of oxidisers or other chemicals.
“Traditional cell culture media are a very poor foundation for in vitro ageing studies. With high doses of growth factors and other stimulants, they actively resist the ageing process” said Peter Girling, VP of Business Development at CELLnTEC.
“With its precisely designed ageing environment, VitroAge demonstrates many features commonly seen in aged tissues in vivo, including reduced proliferation, decreased longevity, disrupted metabolism, and up-regulated ageing markers”.
In recent years, an increasing body of scientific evidence has documented both the central role stem and progenitor cells play in the ageing process, as well as several related ageing mechanisms observed in many parts of the body. Initial characterisation of the VitroAge model has identified several ageing features previously documented in the scientific literature. With strong support from recent science in the fields of stem cells and ageing, this novel model is ideally suited to both basic researchers investigating ageing, as well as the testing of novel anti-ageing strategies by the personal care industry.
About CELLnTEC Advanced Cell Systems AG
CELLnTEC is a leader in the development of precision in vitro models for biomedical research. Exploiting the most recent insights in the field of stem cell biology and ageing, CELLnTEC’s precision models are designed to either target and retain epithelial progenitor cells in 2D or 3D culture, or encourage complete differentiation. CELLnTEC sells its in vitro systems to academia, biotech and pharma via a worldwide distributor network, and also provides in vitro testing services for pharma and cosmeceutical companies.
